RULES & GUIDELINES for tHE AL NAVAROLI YOUNG MUSICIANS COMPETITION

Residence: All applicants must reside in, or study with a music instructor who resides in, either southern Santa Clara county (Morgan Hill, San Martin, Gilroy) or San Benito County.
Ages: The competition is open to musicians
aged 10 thru 18 as of December 31, 2009.
Instruments: All instruments may apply to compete - except
piano.
Audition Music: Each applicant must perform one
movement from a concerto written for their instrument from within
the standard repertoire. The piece should be orchestrated for
either full orchestra, chamber orchestra, or string / woodwind
ensemble.
Pre-screening: Along with their application form, each applicant
must submit a tape or CD recording of them performing their chosen
musical piece. This recording will be used for prescreening purposes.
A maximum of 15 applicants will be chosen as finalists for the
actual competition.
COMPETITION
Date & Location: The finalists competition will be held in late November
or early
December at a Gilroy location. The actual date, time and location of the
competition will be announced in early November.
Accompanist: Each contestant
must perform their chosen piece from memory with an
accompanist. Each contestant is responsible for providing their
own accompanist for the competition.
Music: Each contestant must provide two copies of their music to the judges on the day of the competition.
Duration: At the competition, each contestant will be allowed a maximum of 15 minutes of performance time.
Judging: A maximum of three winners (1st, 2nd & 3rd place) will be chosen. The judges have the right to chose no winners in the event performance levels do not meet the standards of the competition. The decisions of the judges will be final, and the names of the winners will be announced at the conclusion of the competition.

must be accompanied by a non-refundable $ 30
application fee made payable to South Valley Symphony.
Deadline: Applications must be
postmarked not later than November
15, 2009.
