About the Pieces

South Valley Symphony 2006/2007 Season

This year the symphony will play something for everyone!

The excitement kicks off with our October concert, featuring two solo concertos – for saxophone and bassoon – played by fantastic soloists from within our community. We will also play two rousing overtures by Viennese masters Schubert and Brahms. Our second concert will celebrate the Holiday season with sacred music from the Baroque to well-known Holiday favorites of the present.

In March it's Family Concert season! We will tell the story with music of a baby grand piano who leaves home for the very first time to join an orchestra. The orchestra, with pianist Maria Amirkhanian, will introduce listeners of all ages to the unique sounds of the instruments that make up a symphony orchestra. This program will also feature our Concertmaster Beverly Blount in a solo violin performance, as well as the Suite from "Harry Potter".

Our grand finale performance at Mission San Juan Bautista will illustrate in sound the power and majesty of the symphony orchestra. We will play Aaron Copland's famous Fanfare for the Common Man that will feature our brass and percussion section, and then cap off the season with the mighty Beethoven Symphony No. 5.
